Wilmer Gollman (1912-2008)
Wilmer was born on May 14, 1912, in Punta Gorda, FL the third child to Mack & Illinois Gollman. He enjoyed cooking, fishing and playing the piano. Wilmer joined the U.S. Army at 30 years old on 8 Dec 1942 and served in World War II. He obtained the rank of Staff Sargent (E-6) and oversaw the dining facility. Wilmer married Vivian Ruth Adams of New Orleans, a creole woman whose family was friends with the Blanchard family in Punta Gorda. Mr. Blanchard was a ship builder from New Orleans and retired to Punta Gorda. Vivian came to visit the family and meet Wilmer. The land where the Blanchard House Museum now sits on is where the Gollman’s Bar once was, which Wilmer ran for many years. The land was donated by the Gollman family. Vivian would pass a year later on 31 Dec 1951 at the age of 27 years old. Vivian was buried in New Orleans, LA. Wilmer then married Classie Mae Felix of Punta Gorda, FL. Wilmer passed on 14 Sep 2008 at the age of 96 years old and was buried at the Lt. Carl Bailey Cemetery in Cleveland, FL.
